Beloved father, friend, pillar of the community, and founder, Thomas Henry Horrell, (1914-2011), started Horrell Refrigeration in 1943 upon purchasing 1416 Church Street in Nashville, providing refrigeration to local grocery stores. Horrell Properties, Inc. was formed in 1946 and over the next 12 years, his business flourished, gradually adding site consultation and development services to grocers becoming approximately 10% of the business.
Self-described as “born, bred, fed and dead” in Nashville, Tennessee. Stephen Henry Horrell, (1950-2023), to all who knew him, simply loved people and possessed an innate kindness that manifested itself in the way that he approached life and treated others—the personification of a gentleman. Steve’s fifty year business career began at Horrell Properties, a commercial real estate firm founded by his father in 1943. Upon becoming President of the firm, now known as Horrell Company, Steve expanded the business, assembling a team of partners and associates whom he largely credits for the survival and success of Horrell Company.
Elliott joined Horrell Company in 2023 and serves as President. He brings with him significant business and legal expertise, with substantial real estate, development, M&A, joint venture and finance experience across a variety of industries and markets. Prior to joining Horrell Company, he served as in-house counsel for Acadia Healthcare, a multi-billion-dollar public company based in Franklin, Tennessee, providing legal guidance, support and oversight as it executed on strategic goals across its national footprint. Smith was also an attorney with Waller Lansden Dortch and Davis, LLP (now part of global law firm Holland & Knight), where he advised both public and private companies on M&A, joint venture, real estate, capital markets, and other strategic business transactions. He has a background in accounting and gained considerable experience as a forensic auditor at Coleman World Group, a premier provider of global relocation services.
